Elesar brings Black Friday to the world of RISC OS. Again.

So let’s all have a Black Celebration1. For the second year running, Elesar Ltd is allowing RISC OS users to benefit from Black Friday – a sales event from the Untidy States of Overpuddle2 that has started to catch on here in the UK. For Overpuddlians, the last Thursday in November is a national holiday called Thanksgiving, and the day following it is considered to be the first day of the Christmas shopping season. Major retailers on that side of the puddle have sales and open early that day, which…

Elesar Ltd at the Midlands User Group on 16th September

The guest speaker for the next Midlands User Group meeting is to be Rob Sprowson, who will be popping in to talk about all things Elesar Ltd, with its growing range of both hardware and software. Hardware, of course, includes the Titanium motherboard, designed from the outset with RISC OS in mind, while software includes Elesar’s own CloudFS and LOOKSystems’ Font Directory Pro.

Elesar’s Rob Sprowson at WROCC meeting – 3rd May

Taking place on Wednesday, 3rd May, the next meeting of the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club will see Rob Sprowson as the guest speaker. The man behind Elesar Ltd and the Titanium motherboard, Rob will be demonstrating a Titanium-based computer and talking about its development. Elesar also has a growing range of software titles, both home-grown such as CloudFS, and taken over and updated from a previous owner, such as Font Directory Pro (originally from LOOKsystems).

RISC OS Awards 2016 results

The RISC OS Awards poll for 2016 was brought to a close on 29th February. As before, the results were processed and counted on a RISC OS computer (using a home-brewed program to turn the votes into a file for each category, ready to be loaded into Fireworkz), and initially announced on the @RISCOSitory Twitter feed. Those results are now online on the RISC OS Awards website and the various winners have been notified – where possible – by email.

News nybble: Elesar releases Font Directory Pro

In January, Elesar‘s Rob Sprowson paid a visit to the RISC OS User Group of London to talk about CloudFS, and another ‘mystery’ product, later revealed to be font management system Font Directory Pro, originally from LOOKsystems. At that point, a new version of the software was ready, and the only remaining task before it could be released was converting the large user manual. The last release from LOOKsystems was all the way back in 2003, and the new version (3.20) sees the software updated to work on newer ARM…

RISC OS Southwest: One week to go!

That’s just seven days – so few you can count ’em on the fingers of, er, one and a bit hands! In a week’s time, a large contingent of the RISC OS community – hardware and software developers, businesses, hobbyist programmers and, of course, general users – will be converging on a hotel in a rather nice setting on the Mendip Hills for the first main event of the year: RISC OS Southwest, organised by R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley and Orpheus Internet‘s Richard Brown. The hotel is, of course, the Webbington,…

News nybble: Elesar’s mystery product revealed

But if you want more details, pop along to the ROUGOL meeting on Monday! As well as talking about CloudFS, the mystery product that Elesar Ltd‘s Rob Sprowson is set to reveal at the next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London has been revealed as an updated version of Font Directory Pro, which was originally developed and sold by LOOKsystems. The software has been updated so that it can be used on the latest hardware, and on zero-page versions of RISC OS, and MW Software have provided…

Christmas meal at ROUGOL, 19th December

So if this was a news nybble, it would be a nybble about having a nibble, then? The RISC OS User Group of London‘s next meeting will take place on Monday, 19th December, and with no set topic of formal speaker arranged, the group will instead take the opportunity to have an informal discussion about what has happened in the RISC OS world during 2016, and what people hope to see happen in 2017 – and all of this over a drink and a meal.

Show report: London 2016

Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor London? This year’s RISC OS London Show took place on 29th October, and while it wasn’t as large as last year’s event (which I’ll discuss near the end of this report) it was still an enjoyable and worthwhile one. So, without any further preamble, here is a run down of what visitors could have seen, working clockwise from the entrance.

Elesar brings Black Friday to RISC OS

Not to be confused with Black Thursday1. In the Untidy States of Overpuddle2, the fourth Thursday in November is Thanksgiving, a public holiday that dates back a few hundred years. Not dating back quite so far, and not an actual holiday, the day after this has become known as Black Friday, which is considered to be the first day of the Christmas shopping season, and most large retailers have promotional sales to celebrate it.
