Show report: London 2019

The 2019 RISC OS London Show took place on Saturday, 26th October – and once again (speaking as an exhibitor) seemed to be a buzzing, exciting show with plenty for the visitor to see and experience. It was the 11th London Show, with the first having taken place on 3rd October, 2009, and there was a good mix of exhibitors including large well known RISC OS names and smaller home-based operators. As well as many well known faces there were new ones as well, which is always welcome – and…

Show report: Wakefield 2019

Six months on from the show itself… that’s almost as long as the Long Gap between the Wakefield and London shows! Ahem. The place to be for discerning RISC OS users (and retro Acorn enthusiasts) on Saturday, 27th April, was Wakefield – more specifically, the Cedar Court Hotel in Calder Grove – because that was where the annual Wakefield Acorn and RISC OS Computer Show took place.

News nybble: R-Comp and RCI at the Wakefield Show

R-Comp and RCI will be at the Wakefield Show on 27th April with a number of updated software packages. NetFetch 5.50, released earlier this month, benefits from increased security thanks to the new AcornSSL module, and Messenger Pro 8.02 gains ‘Big mode’ support on ARMBook laptops. Fireworkz Pro 2.22 sees further improvements to its database integration and more, while Genealogy Records adds support for DNA testing and matching, and other features. The ARMX6 graphics acceleration module, meanwhile, will see a new version released in time for the show with some…

Show report: Wakefield 2018

That’s last year’s record for a long-delayed show report broken! This year’s Wakefield Show took place on 21st April, at the Cedar Court Hotel, organised by the local user group – the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC). Like last year, I must apologise for another long-delayed RISCOSitory show report. As ever, this is mainly because of how busy I am outside the world of RISC OS, but also because I wanted to edit down my video recordings of the theatre talks to a more manageable length – and video…

Orpheus Internet is crowdfunding a DataCentre

The RISC OS friendly ISP needs the help of its RISC OS friends. At the start of last month, Orpheus Internet suffered an outage – on 1st July, the company’s servers became unreachable, apparently due to a network IP address issue. That day was a Sunday, of course – and Richard Brown reported on the company’s news page that “It would be nice if this can be rectified on Sunday but I doubt it. I would expect services to gradually resume during Monday and reach 100% Tuesday-Wednesday.”

Show report: London 2016

Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor London? This year’s RISC OS London Show took place on 29th October, and while it wasn’t as large as last year’s event (which I’ll discuss near the end of this report) it was still an enjoyable and worthwhile one. So, without any further preamble, here is a run down of what visitors could have seen, working clockwise from the entrance.

News nybble: R-Comp ‘Bundle’ CD expanded for London 2016

R-Comp‘s ‘Bundle CD’ – which includes a great deal of commercial software for a comparatively low price – has been updated in time for this weekend’s London Show. The disc includes such titles as DataPower, SafeStore, Messenger Pro, and so on – and the update includes the latest versions of DeleGate, Fireworkz Pro 2, and Messenger Pro 7. The CD is available to those purchasing a computer from the company, and those who already have an R-Comp machine but who didn’t opt for the collection previously can purchase it separately…
