News nybble: PiTools and 4téTools 1.21 released
R-Comp‘s support packages for the 4té and Raspberry Pi 4 (on which it is based) have both been updated, with the latest versions – 1.21 – both available to download. In the case of PiTools, that’ll be via !Store, and in the case of 4téTools, from the users’ download site, detailed in the machine’s support documentation. The reason for the update is that an issue cropped up with some of the LockScreen options, which have now been resolved.

Released barely a week ago as a general spin off the software supplied with the 4té computer, intended for use by other people running RISC OS on the Raspberry Pi, an update to PiTools has been pushed out by R-Comp Interactive. The product, which began life as 4téTools on its namesake computer – itself based around the Raspberry Pi 4 – provides additional tools and configuration facilities to the computer in addition to those included in RISC OS itself.

With the launch of their 4té computer in the latter part of last year, R-Comp developed a set of tools to run on the system, neatly wrapped up in an application called 4téTools. This provided features over and above the easily accessible configuration options provided in RISC OS itself, and covered areas such as the display, keyboard and mouse, networking, and much more.
Show report: Southwest 2020
I don’t think anyone can possibly disagree with me when I say that 2020, so far, has been an unusual year. Most of the world is in some form of lockdown due to the SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus) pandemic, with movements beyond our homes and interactions with people beyond our own households at a minimum – which means (in a RISC OS context) shows and user group meetings aren’t taking place.
Southwest Show – final round up of pre-show news
As the countdown until this year’s Southwest Show ticks over into the final twenty four hours – the show takes place tomorrow, Saturday, 22nd February at the Arnos Manor Hotel in Bristol – a few press releases and announcements have found their way to me. The 2019 RISC OS London Show took place on Saturday, 26th October – and once again (speaking as an exhibitor) seemed to be a buzzing, exciting show with plenty for the visitor to see and experience. R-Comp releases tool to protect RISC OS computers from prying eyes
Lock down, lock all eyes out – there’s no way to pry!1. New-ish2 from R-Comp is an application designed to lock down your RISC OS computers in a way similar to other platforms. On those platforms, it’s normal to be prompted to enter a password at start-up, and possibly when the machine has been left idle, or when you force the issue by telling it to go to sleep, etc.
