And it has found a new home… in Bristol!

With the most recent Southwest Show having taken place in February, the organisers revealed the date of the 2019 event at the time of the even more recent Wakefield Show last weekend. The date of the next Southwest show will be on 16th February, 2019, so please mark that date in your diaries now.

The date of the next show isn’t the only thing to be revealed, though. The RISC OS Southwest Show 2019 will be taking place in a different venue – the Arnos Manor Hotel in Bristol – with much better links for people coming by both public and private transport alike.

And you thought I was slow putting my videos online!

Ruth Gunstone is one of the duo that handles the theatre at the annual Wakefield Show, along with Peter Richmond, and she has also made video recordings of the talks for the last couple of years. Her recordings from last year’s show are now online for your viewing pleasure – just in time for this year’s show! The videos in question are:

The latest Icon Bar Interview was published this morning, featuring Orpheus Internet‘s Richard Brown as the interviewee. Richard, as everyone should know by now, teams up with R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley to form the Dynamic Duo that organises the RISC OS Southwest Show – the first main RISC OS show in the calendar year.

And in that interview, Richard revealed the date of the 2018 event as Saturday, 24th February – again in the Webbington Hotel, located on the edge of the Mendip Hills between Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare. That’s about six and a half months away – so plenty of time to get yourselves sorted and make the necessary arrangements to come to the show and support it and everyone involved.

Don’t forget, RISCOSitory now hosts a shows and events mailing list, which you can use to discuss anything to do with this and other shows – including discussing and making arrangements for combined travel, if you need to.

It was brought to my attention via Twitter last night that Orpheus Internet Services Ltd – the company originally set up by Paul Vigay back in 2005 to take on the customers of ISP ArgoNET – has been dissolved by way of a compulsory strike-off. However, while that may seem bad at first glance, all is not what it seems.

I spoke to Richard Brown today, and he confirmed that while he took over the company after the unfortunate death of Paul Vigay back in 2009, the ISP business was actually transitioned over to Richard’s other, older company, GeneSys Developments Ltd at an early stage – so all of the ISP customers have actually been customers of GeneSys for quite some time. Orpheus Internet, the very RISC OS-friendly ISP that was formed by the late Paul Vigay and now headed up by Richard Brown – one half of the Dynamic Duo that organises the Southwest Show – have announced that they now have new prices for ADSL and Fibre-to-the-Cabinet services. The company also provides off-site, secure backup facilities, and a range of remote support services, all at sensible prices.

Richard will be in attendance at the London Show on Saturday, providing an ideal opportunity to discuss your needs, and says that the company is “working towards a new server and service aimed specifically at RISC OS Users” – but you’ll have to wait until the Southwest Show to find out more about that.

Previously only provisional, presence now, er, confirmed.

With the Southwest Show fast approaching – it’s set to take place on the 21st February, just two weeks from today – organisers R-Comp Interactive and Orpheus Internet have been able to confirm the attendance of three more exhibitors: Continue reading »
