CJE Micro’s has made a free patch available for photo editing and retouching package PhotoDesk, to address a problem experienced by some users of version 3.14 when using the application’s Special Effects filters.

In some cases, use of the filters can cause what Chris Evans described as a “serious crash” – which, judging by a discussion on usenet group comp.sys.acorn.apps (before it veered onto the subject of whether the application should be called PhotoDesk or Photodesk1), looks as though it might specifically affect Iyonix, ARMiniX, and ARMX6. A new version of leading bitmap graphics editor PhotoDesk will be available at the London Show on Saturday from 4D, the sister company of CJE Micro’s. The new version brings a number of changes, including better JPEG support and improved compatibility for a number of modern RISC OS platforms (with support for the Raspberry Pi 3 added) – but perhaps most importantly, it now supports those platforms on which the order of colour components are swapped, such as IGEPv5 and Titanium.

Upgrades – which start at £12.00 if upgrading from 3.12 – will be available at the show if customers bring their PhotoDesk CDs with them. For new customers, the software is priced at £84.00.

Time for a good dollop of ketchup… erm, I mean, time to catch up!

As ever, the result of devoting time to getting ready for a RISC OS show means putting other work to one side to deal with after – which therefore means I tend to be busy after the show, leading to a lack of updates to RISCOSitory (an effect worsened when the show happens to fall at the start of what is going to be a busy period anyway, as some do).

So the best way to deal with that?

A ‘Snippets’ post catching up on things and bringing the site back up to date! That’ll be this, then, starting with some event news. Continue reading »

QuadDioph is a new piece of software from Martin Carradus. It’s an application that solves or finds “solution of certain Quadratic Diophantine Equations, of the form x^2 + B.x.y + A.y^2 = z^p, (e.g. x^2 + y^2 = z^2, two squares adding to a square, or x^2 + y^2 = z^3, two squares adding to a cube).” The application is free to download from Martin’s website.

Martin Wuerthner has announced that an ARMv7 compatible version of InterGif. Version 6.18 can be used on the BeagleBoard, ARMini, etc. InterGif is an application for converting graphics from RISC OS Sprite and Draw formats to GIF format with optimised palettes, allowing them to be viewed on other platforms, and used on websites. Originally written by Peter Harley and now maintained by Martin Wuerthner, the software also allows GIF animations to be created from a series of Sprites, and can also convert from GIF to Sprite format.
