But if you want more details, pop along to the ROUGOL meeting on Monday!

As well as talking about CloudFS, the mystery product that Elesar Ltd‘s Rob Sprowson is set to reveal at the next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London has been revealed as an updated version of Font Directory Pro, which was originally developed and sold by LOOKsystems. The software has been updated so that it can be used on the latest hardware, and on zero-page versions of RISC OS, and MW Software have provided an updated file scanner plug-in for Artworks files that contain text areas.

The only task remaining in order to be able to release the new version of Font Directory Pro is converting the large user manual, which is taking longer than expected – but in the meantime, the meeting on Monday, 16th January (full details in the previous announcement) is the place to be to see a demonstration of the software and pose any questions about it to Rob.

So if this was a news nybble, it would be a nybble about having a nibble, then?

The RISC OS User Group of London‘s next meeting will take place on Monday, 19th December, and with no set topic of formal speaker arranged, the group will instead take the opportunity to have an informal discussion about what has happened in the RISC OS world during 2016, and what people hope to see happen in 2017 – and all of this over a drink and a meal. Looking down the main hall at London 2016

This year’s RISC OS London Show took place on 29th October, and while it wasn’t as large as last year’s event (which I’ll discuss near the end of this report) it was still an enjoyable and worthwhile one. So, without any further preamble, here is a run down of what visitors could have seen, working clockwise from the entrance.

Not to be confused with Black Thursday1.

Titanium motherboardIn the Untidy States of Overpuddle2, the fourth Thursday in November is Thanksgiving, a public holiday that dates back a few hundred years. Not dating back quite so far, and not an actual holiday, the day after this has become known as Black Friday, which is considered to be the first day of the Christmas shopping season, and most large retailers have promotional sales to celebrate it. And pencil in 16th January to hear about CloudFS and an as yet unannounced new product from Elesar!

Anthony Bartram of AMCOG Games will be talking about sound synthesis at the next meeting of the RISC OS User Group of London, which takes place on Monday, 21st November, kicking off at 7:45pm. Tony – a musician, as well as a games developer – is working on a sound synthesiser for RISC OS, based on Wavebox for Windows, but with some differences in the sound engine, which will be geared towards chip tunes and sound effects.

The group meets at the Blue Eyed Maid (upstairs, in the restaurant), 173 Borough High Street, London, SE1 1HR – which serves a range of food and drinks, and can be found between (and a short walk from) London Bridge and Borough tube stations. There is no fee for attending – so if you’re in the area, feel free to join the meeting!
