Show report: London 2017

The question on everyone’s lips for countless years to come will be “Where were you on 28th October, 2017?” Okay, they probably won’t be asking that – but I’m asking it now. Well? Where were you? I’ll tell you where I was: Feltham. More specifically, the St Giles Hotel – in the conference rooms on the first floor, where this year’s London Show was held. If you weren’t there, I’ll assume you’re reading this because you have an interest in RISC OS, and would like to know what you missed.…

Elesar brings Black Friday to the world of RISC OS. Again.

So let’s all have a Black Celebration1. For the second year running, Elesar Ltd is allowing RISC OS users to benefit from Black Friday – a sales event from the Untidy States of Overpuddle2 that has started to catch on here in the UK. For Overpuddlians, the last Thursday in November is a national holiday called Thanksgiving, and the day following it is considered to be the first day of the Christmas shopping season. Major retailers on that side of the puddle have sales and open early that day, which…

Elesar Ltd at the Midlands User Group on 16th September

The guest speaker for the next Midlands User Group meeting is to be Rob Sprowson, who will be popping in to talk about all things Elesar Ltd, with its growing range of both hardware and software. Hardware, of course, includes the Titanium motherboard, designed from the outset with RISC OS in mind, while software includes Elesar’s own CloudFS and LOOKSystems’ Font Directory Pro.

RISC OS Southwest: One week to go!

That’s just seven days – so few you can count ’em on the fingers of, er, one and a bit hands! In a week’s time, a large contingent of the RISC OS community – hardware and software developers, businesses, hobbyist programmers and, of course, general users – will be converging on a hotel in a rather nice setting on the Mendip Hills for the first main event of the year: RISC OS Southwest, organised by R-Comp‘s Andrew Rawnsley and Orpheus Internet‘s Richard Brown. The hotel is, of course, the Webbington,…

Snippets – 9th January, 2022

A roundup of 2021 news and releases not already covered on RISCOSitory With 2021 now behind us, the time has come for one final round up of news that hasn’t already found its way onto onto these pages – although this time, in fact, it’s the only round up of such news for 2021; for 2020, a snippets post appeared half way through the year and then another just after the year ended – but no earlier post has been compiled for 2021.

Snippets – 1st January, 2021

A final round up of 2020 news that hasn’t found its way to RISCOSitory before I was aiming to get this final round up of news posted on the last day of 2020, but as ever other things got in the way, so what was intended as the last post of 2020 has become the first post of 2021. Still, never mind, better late than never – which should probably be the official motto here in the RISCOSitory bunker!

Show report: London 2019

The 2019 RISC OS London Show took place on Saturday, 26th October – and once again (speaking as an exhibitor) seemed to be a buzzing, exciting show with plenty for the visitor to see and experience. It was the 11th London Show, with the first having taken place on 3rd October, 2009, and there was a good mix of exhibitors including large well known RISC OS names and smaller home-based operators. As well as many well known faces there were new ones as well, which is always welcome – and…

Show report: Wakefield 2018

That’s last year’s record for a long-delayed show report broken! This year’s Wakefield Show took place on 21st April, at the Cedar Court Hotel, organised by the local user group – the Wakefield RISC OS Computer Club (WROCC). Like last year, I must apologise for another long-delayed RISCOSitory show report. As ever, this is mainly because of how busy I am outside the world of RISC OS, but also because I wanted to edit down my video recordings of the theatre talks to a more manageable length – and video…

Show report: Southwest 2018

Better late than never, but not as late as last year – so that’s something, right? This year’s Southwest Show took place on Saturday, 24th February, at the Webbington Hotel and Spa – the same venue at which it has been held every year since its inception. This year’s show was therefore the 21st, marking twenty years since the very first one, held in February 1998. There was therefore cake – which you missed out on if you didn’t come to the show, and which everyone who was present enjoyed.…
