Snippets – 31st December, 2022

A collection of news for 2022 not already covered on RISCOSitory 2022 is about to draw to a close, so it’s time to cast one last eye over the various forums etc., to look for things that haven’t found their way onto these pages already.

Wakefield 2022 – show report

With no London Show today, it’s a perfect time to remember Wakefield! This year’s Wakefield show was a slightly unusual one for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the show was held around a month later than usual, on 21st May, rather than its traditional April slot – although you could also argue that it had returned to its original traditional month; the show started out in May back in 1996.

Super prize draw at Wakefield (in Bradford)

There tends to be a prize draw held at the Wakefield Show, but this year (Saturday, 21st May – being held in Bradford) marks something of a milestone; it will be the 25th physical Wakefield Show, and the first physical one since the pandemic. The usual prize draw has therefore been given a little boost – which may or may not have involved gamma rays or a radioactive spider – and it’s now a SUPER one.

Show report: Southwest 2020

I don’t think anyone can possibly disagree with me when I say that 2020, so far, has been an unusual year. Most of the world is in some form of lockdown due to the SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus) pandemic, with movements beyond our homes and interactions with people beyond our own households at a minimum – which means (in a RISC OS context) shows and user group meetings aren’t taking place.

Show report: London 2019

The 2019 RISC OS London Show took place on Saturday, 26th October – and once again (speaking as an exhibitor) seemed to be a buzzing, exciting show with plenty for the visitor to see and experience. It was the 11th London Show, with the first having taken place on 3rd October, 2009, and there was a good mix of exhibitors including large well known RISC OS names and smaller home-based operators. As well as many well known faces there were new ones as well, which is always welcome – and…

Mystery new product to be revealed in London – on 21st October

Wait, the London Show is on 26th October! What’s going on? If you read the London Show preview, you’ll notice that Adrian Lees is planning to launch a major new application, with no details available as yet about what it is – so the nature of that application is a mystery. Five days before the London Show, however, its organisers – the RISC OS User Group of London (ROUGOL) – still plan to have their regular monthly meeting, and there will be a mystery new product revealed at that meeting.…

The 2019 London Show looms

Hang on, have I written the Southwest Show report yet? Ah, yes. What about Wakefield? Er… The countdown until the end of the Long Gap, when the RISC OS London Show takes place, has now ticked down to twenty days. It takes place on Saturday, 26th October at the St Giles Hotel, Feltham – so I hope everyone has their travel (and if necessary hotel) arrangements made, and that the show will be busy with plenty of visitors.

Show report: London 2018

Just in time for Wakefield! With half of a year having passed since the London Show (and the Wakefield Show almost upon us), the RISCOSitory report is more than a little overdue – again! The usual main excuse applies, which is that it’s always busy here in the bunker, and some things have to be put off in favour of other, more important tasks. However, it is now the turn of that task to be used to put off other less important things – so here, at long last, is…
